About the Program
SXU's Computer Information Systems (CIS) program is designed for those who seek to start a career in computing, advance their current career, or transition into technology industries with flexible learning options. Students will earn a general bachelor’s degree in computer information systems or specialize in cybersecurity or web development. Students also have the opportunity to take the CCNA track courses to prepare them for the Cisco Certified Network Association (CCNA) and CompTIA Networking+ certifications. All full-time faculty members in the department hold doctorate degrees and industry backgrounds in their respective fields.
Most courses in the program are offered with hands-on labs that simulate real-word problems and scenarios that provide students with practical learning experience. Our instructional lab (S-104) has state-of-the-art computers for in-class work and projects. The lab is designed with collaboration in mind. In addition, students can join Cougar Code, a registered student organization (RSO) that fosters collaboration and development within the field.
Our Computer Information Systems (CIS) program provides independent studies, special topic courses, internships along with internship credit, and capstone courses for students who are seeking insight into the latest technologies in the field. In addition, students will enhance their learning experiences through research initiatives, collaborative projects, and guest speakers. CIS faculty members supervise trips to conferences that provide additional academic and professional growth.
